Is Marijuana the new face-chewing drug?

Is Marijuana the new face-chewing drug?

The full toxicology report has been released by the Miami-Dade medical examiner and the only drug detected in Rudy Eugene was marijuana.  This May, 31-year-old Rudy Eugene, in what appeared to be a drug-induced psychosis chewed off over 75% of Ronald Poppo’s face causing complete loss of his nose and one eye.  Poppo, 65, was homeless at the time of the attack.

After testing for all other street drugs, a second toxicology investigation confirmed the absence of the most common ingredients in bath salts.  It appears that Bath Salts have been exonerated, at least in this case of vicious, facial aggression.

“Appears” is the operative word here as medical examiner Dr. Bruce Hyma said in a statement, “Within the limits of current technology by both laboratories marijuana is the only drug identified in the body of Mr. Rudy Eugene.”  As I’ve mentioned on my talk show and previous blogs on the subject of Bath Salts, drug testing has been unable to stay one step ahead of the manufacturers and their mix of “zombie brew”.

Miami-Dade Medical Examiner Toxicology Statement:  “The department’s toxicology laboratory has identified the active components of marijuana,” medical examiner Dr. Bruce Hyma said in a statement. “The laboratory has tested for but not detected any other street drugs, alcohol or prescription drugs…This includes cocaine, LSD, amphetamines (Ecstasy, Meth and others), phencyclidine (PCP or Angel Dust), heroin, oxycodone, Xanax, synthetic marijuana (Spice), and many other similar compounds.”

So, again I ask, is Marijuana the new face-chewing drug?  Is it possible that the marijuana in Mr. Eugene’s system was laced with a substance that precipitated this attack?  How do the results of this drug test, in light of this vicious attack, make or break the case for legalizing marijuana?  As always, I welcome your comments!
