Easy Celiac Home Test

Posted on June 13, 2025

Celiac disease is a long-term autoimmune condition that can cause damage to the small intestine when gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and triticale, is eaten. Celiac disease can lead to malabsorption of important nutrients and can cause many symptoms, such as bloating, gas, diarrhea and fatigue. It is estimated that about 1% of the population has celiac disease. Home blood tests for the condition have become available, and it is feared that people with positive test results will begin following gluten-free diets without being evaluated by physicians.

Generally, gluten-related disorder home test collecting a sample by pricking the finger or swabbing the inside of the cheek. Two types are available: antibody tests and genetic tests. Each offers different measurements and there is limited research on the accuracy of the methods used. The reliability of the result can also depend on how closely a person follows the instructions, and on whether or not the person is currently eating gluten products.

Non-Invasive Celiac Home Test Options in 2025

The new, Health Canada-approved, over-the-counter, easy celiac home test measures antibodies against wheat, barley and rye proteins that are elevated in people with celiac disease. It is designed to help doctors assess the risk of a patient for developing the condition and can be purchased with an HSA or FSA, as well as with medical insurance. The kit includes a prepaid envelope for returning the sample to the company, and the website provides step-by-step instructions.

The company’s other new test, which is expected to be on the market in early 2015, analyzes a saliva sample to identify genetic markers associated with celiac disease. It can be purchased with a prepaid envelope and can be used with an HSA or FSA as well as with Medicare and private insurance. The website says the results will be available within three weeks, and they can be viewed online.
