If you’re planning a trip to Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen or other destinations in Mexico’s southeast, you’ll need to pay the new Mexico Visitax payment. Also known as the tourism tax, this fee was introduced in 2019 to help bolster local tourism infrastructure, boost the economy, and support new and sustainable tourism projects in Quintana Roo.
It’s a Mexico Visitax payment for foreign travelers, and it’s designed to be simple, user-friendly, and efficient. Once you’ve paid, a confirmation will be sent to your email address within minutes. This e-mail will serve as proof of payment when you arrive at the airport and when you pass through security on your departure flight.

You can also pay this new tourist tax in person when you arrive at the Cancun International Airport or other Quintana Roo destinations. The airports will have VISITAX kiosks where you can pay with your credit or debit card. However, we recommend paying online ahead of time so you can skip the lines and save money.
There are certain exemptions and discounts available for this new tourist tax in Cancun, including children under 15 years old, Mexican citizens and residents, and transit passengers. Be sure to check the website for details and instructions on how to apply for these exemptions. In addition, it’s a good idea to keep a copy of your payment receipt with you so you can present it to the authorities upon your return home from Mexico.
